About The Cooking Pot- African kitchen
Located at 5622 E Independence Blvd #129, Charlotte, NC 28212, The Cooking Pot- African kitchen operates as an other food place serving Charlotte in North Carolina. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it. Besides its main category, the business also describes itself as african restaurant, so it may cover more than the name suggests.
This group holds listings that did not fit cleanly into a food or drink category, mostly businesses that were pulled in alongside a restaurant in the same shopping plaza or that combine several kinds of service, such as a market with an attached clinic or a strip-mall unit that also does phone repair or tax preparation. The details here come from the public listing rather than a curated food write-up, so treat the category label loosely and check the business's own hours and services before visiting. Some of these are legitimate neighbors of the food businesses on this site, such as a nail salon or a laundromat in the same strip mall, while others are simply miscategorized on the source data and worth a quick call to confirm what they actually offer.
Hours have not been published for this listing yet. Most businesses of this type in Charlotte keep standard business hours, but call ahead to be sure, especially on weekends and holidays. The listed phone number is (704) 909-4000. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone.
With 3.5 out of 5 on Google from 192 reviews, it sits in the middle of the range for other food places in Charlotte. Recent reviews are the best guide.
Charlotte is in North Carolina, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. Traffic in Charlotte peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, so allow extra time then. Addresses read from the street number up to the city, state abbreviation and five-digit ZIP code; the map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Long but necessary! I first want to start by saying had I trusted the previous reviews I would have truly missed out on the most authentic African food Charlotte has to offer. I had my very first taste of Egusi and fufu here with the Jollaf rice and I can truthfully say in my experience there is NOT another African restaurant that compares. My food is always fresh and hot. I have enough to get full and still take home leftovers. I am truly hooked on this place. On days the cooking pot was closed I tried other African restaurants and never received the same quality of food, service or consideration. I now wait until they are open, no exceptions. People go where they feel welcomed but stay where they feel valued and let me tell you, I have received nothing but great service every visit. She even remembers my order and that I do not like meat. She challenges me to try other dishes and have really opened my palates, and as a pickey eater. Thatβs talent!! You can literally taste the love in every dish and thatβs what makes this place so special. I do not leave reviews often but there is a disservice being done here as I read through some of the reviews. I absolutely love everything abo

Now wonder they been closed down for almost 3 months....Rude customer service and miserable staff how is this even a business... must be a joke the lady working behind the counter yelled at me and told me that i couldn't talk to anyone in the store after I purchased my food and told me I was not allowed back into the store because I was talking with another customer about the experience I encountered with being shorted on a party jollof rice I ordered. I ordered a party jollof and plantains and was only served 2 spoons of rice. But wanted to give me gravy for free I did NOT request for gravy I requested for rice! lol if that the case why notΓΊ charge me for the gravy instead of UNDER portioning me on the rice that I paid for. Under portioning and rude and I wouldn't advise any one to eat here! The police was called out because she refused to refund me and made me pay for my food before serving me and they advise me to file a claim through the BBB & file a claim through my bank which im going to do ! U were yelling at me I wasn't yelling at all I was calm until the police came ! I was never escorted out by the police ! I even sat outside to file a claim ! All of your reviews say th

This is what you get for $30, a spoonful of egusi with fufu & side of jollof rice that tasted burnt. I walked into the restaurant and asked for a menu, was told they dont have menus and then she proceeded to ask me what i want. First red flag. You would think with charging this amount of money for these tiny portions you would at least receive good service or something that would make you feel like what you just paid for was worth it but that wasnt the case. I rarely ever write reviews but this was not a good experience overall. And from the looks of the responses of these other reviews on here, this business doesnt seem to take accountability or know how to provide customer service. The pictures are before anything was eaten. On the left is how the food came & was presented to me. On the right, i scraped some egusi to the side so you can see the depth & actual amount that was given.

I really want to give this place 5 stars; however the food quality is hit or miss and I absolutely love authentic African food. The Moi Moi (grounded and seasoned to perfection black-eyed peas) is my absolute favorite thing to get here. When it comes to the chicken- it has never seemed like fresh chicken as it is always fried extremely hard and then sauced, it seems like day old chicken. The jollof rice is good; however I wish that they would make a milder version so those who canβt tolerate spice that well can enjoy or at least try it out too. Everything looks delicious from the photo but the chicken was a miss. The moi moi didnβt disappoint. Update in response: Iβve actually frequented several African restaurants and this restaurant several times and depending on time of day of arrival the food consistency differs. I wouldnβt have left a review stating my thoughts if I had only visited once or twice. African food is one of my absolute favorites as it intertwines closely with Gullah cuisine. Iβm not saying based on this review that Iβll never visit again, itβs just the quality has not been consistent on the times that Iβve been. Again the Moi Moi, has never disappointed me.
